Innovative Services

Consejo has implemented an innovative, one-stop recovery program for adult Latinos who are suffering from chronic depression and/or living with mental illness. Salud Integral provides clients with opportunities to experience a wide range of regular, structured, therapeutic and recreational activities. In addition, clients also have free access to natural health services such as acupuncture, Chinese and herbal medicine. Salud Integral applies a blend of wellness and recovery principles into comprehensive treatment by increasing productivity and enhancing individual and collective personal fulfillment in a safe environment that is also very unrestrictive. The program is available Mondays through Fridays from 11:00 to 3:00 pm. Clients receive a nutritious lunch every day and transportation is also provided. A diversity of activities thus far includes:

• Psychiatric services and medication management
• Group and individual therapy
• Case management with linkage to services, referrals and service coordination
• Naturopathic medicine including acupuncture, Chinese and herbal medicine
• Nutrition and Health Education including HIV Prevention
• Cooking classes
• Community Resources Awareness Training including information on public health services, insurance, and Medicaid/Medicare benefits
• Yarn paintings and ceramics
• Salsa and traditional folk dancing classes
• Music therapy
• Exercise and yoga classes
• Fieldtrips, and
• Group discussions on interpersonal communication, depression, stress management and life skills.
