Human Trafficking

Consejo's Human Trafficking Program provides community and legal advocacy services to victims of human trafficking, which is a modern-day form of slavery. Victims, who may be young children, teenagers, men or women, are subjected to force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of sexual exploitation or forced labor.

Today, human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world, and currently tied with the illegal arms industry as the second largest, after drug dealing. Many trafficking victims do not understand or speak English, and therefore are isolated and unable to communicate with law enforcement, service providers, or others who might be in a position to assist them. Consejo's Human Trafficking Program services can include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting non- or limited English-language proficient clients in Spanish to understand their rights

  • Obtain basic needs assistance,

  • Access community resources,

  • Obtain immigration relief, and

  • Determine their eligibility for Crime Victim's Compensation benefits.

Consejo's Human Trafficking program also provides education and outreach to the community and other service providers regarding how to identify and support victims of trafficking.
