Latino Behavioral Health Conference

In partnership with the University of Washington School of Social Work, Consejo produced the first Latino Behavioral Health Conference in Seattle in 2003. Over the last several years, this annual conference has provided a unique opportunity to join exceptional speakers and diverse health service providers for an intensive study of cultural competency in behavioral health services. The Latino Behavioral Health Conference has brought together Latino and mainstream professionals, service providers, public and non-for-profit agency staff, students and consumers to examine issues within the physical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of the Latino community. All of the presenters are bilingual and bicultural professionals and experts who share cultural sensitivities, therapeutic techniques, as well as effective and innovative clinical strategies, skills and practices. Some past workshops include:

  • Cultural Competence Standards for Latinos in Managed Mental Health Care
  • Abuse, Trauma and Consequences in the Latino Context
  • Immigration Issues and Implications in Both Education and Mental Health
  • Assessing Violence in the Latino Community
  • Aging, Disability and Spirituality: The Latino Experience
  • Naturopathic Medicine in the Latino Community
  • Sexual Trauma and Treatment Guidelines for the Latino Client
  • The Latino Family – Conflict Resolution and Mediation
  • Latino Offenders and Domestic Violence Issues
  • Treatment for High Risk Latino Substance Abusers
  • Latino Sexual Minorities
  • Cancer Prevention Among Latinos

Consejo is proud to announce that our 2007 conference will be held on June 8 at the University of Washington School of Social Work.
